Foggy Forest Post Mortem
This is the very first Twine game I’ve ever made! I wanted to try out writing for a project as opposed to working on environmental or character design. Overall I’m satisfied that I was able to finish the project, but of course there’s still places that I think could’ve been refined and had a bigger emphasis on player interaction.
What I’m Happy With
I was pretty satisfied with the overall end product and atmosphere that I was able to instill into the game. For this being my first introduction into trying to write for a game this definitely exceeded the expectations I set for myself. I really enjoyed adding the branching paths to the player choices and being able to have some of them make a loop back into the major choices of the game for the sake of building up the atmosphere and setting that I was hoping to achieve. I feel like I was also able to keep a strong sense of confusion and mystery throughout the entire project.
What I Think I Could’ve Done Better
I definitely think that with more experience in Twine I’d be able to make something that's more engaging with the player and can appeal to a wider audience through RPG like combat (just in the form of text options). Also, while I think that I was able to get a good sense of atmosphere and setting, my writing skills aren’t the best and leave a lot to be desired with the ending of the story being so vague and confusing. I would also like to hopefully have some more intriguing text prompts and “conflicts” with either later iterations of this game or future Twine projects.
Thank you for reading and playing my game!
